The Usage Of Water In Rolling Mill Machines

With the development of the steel industry, more attention is paid to the protection of mechanical machines, such as roughing machines, reversible rolling mills, pre-finishing rolling mills, finishing rolling mills, and wire-rod mills. Therefore, most of the water used in the iron and steel industry is used for cooling, protecting equipment, and improving the working conditions of the employees. The Health and safety of the employee require dust control, which is commonly accomplished by sprinkling water on floors and machines.

Water use in all types of hot rolling mills is mainly for scale removal and temperature control. When steel is heated to the high temperature desired for hot rolling, its surface is oxidized and a hard scale is formed. If not removed before rolling, this scale would be rolled into the steel and would cause surface defects.  A common method of scale removal is to spray water under a pressure of as much as 2,000 psi (pounds per square inch) against the steel immediately before it enters the rolls.

Cooling water is sprayed on the rolls during hot rolling to prevent distortion and reduce erosion of the roll surfaces. Because considerable heat is produced by the rolling processes, water also serves to keep the steel at its proper rolling processes. Upon emergence from rolling mills, steel may be sprayed with water to hasten cooling. This spray prevents excessive scale formation. Roll bearings also require cooling. Spent cooling water flows to the scale pit along with that used for scale removal and may be reused after clarification and cooling.

The original old-fashioned horizontal rolling mill and double-rolling mill are far from meeting the needs of today's market development in terms of accuracy and quality, as well as in terms of output and control level.

    Therefore, in the late 1960s, with the continuous improvement of the technical level, various new types of high-speed twistless finishing mills were developed in the world, and the wire weight was increased from tens of kilograms to two and a half tons. The final exit speed of the rolling is increased from the original 20m/s to 30m/s to the current 130m/s, and the finished product tolerance is ±011mm.

Due to the smooth surface quality of the wire, the head-to-tail tolerance value is small, and the metallographic structure is more uniform after the water-cooling and the loose-rolling control are cooled, so that the wire can be drawn without heat treatment, thereby greatly reducing the cost and receiving a large number of users. At present, representative finishing mills include internal drive 45-degree wire rod mill, external mesh drive 45-degree finishing mill, X type 45 degree centralized drive finishing mill, Y type three-roll finishing mill, flat roll drive finishing mill, 75 degrees. ×15 degree concentrated transmission finishing mill six types.

The rolling mill is mainly a kind of equipment for rolling metals. It can not only arrange according to the parts rolls but also differentiate according to the main arrangement of the stand. The main product classifications are as follows:


1. First, two-roll mill, the biggest feature of this mill is very simple in structure and has a wide range of uses. It can be divided into reversible or irreversible type. Reversible type mainly includes blooming mill, plate mill, and rail beam mill. The irreversible rolling mill can be divided into laminated thin plate rolling mill, strip rolling mill, continuous slab rolling mill and thin plate rolling mill. If classified according to this form, there are four-roll mill, six-roll mill, three-roll mill, and five-roll mill.


2. Planetary rolling mill mainly uses two large-diameter supporting rolls to drive two sets of planetary roll systems. Whether flat ingots or slabs, they can be directly rolled into thin strips at one time. If continuous caster can be directly used in the front process and temper mill is used in the back process, the production process of hot strip steel can be effectively simplified. 


3. Universal rolling mill is mainly composed of vertical roll and flat roll, and all its accessories are basically driven by power, so it can be used in slab or flat steel rolling for many times.

In steel rolling mill production, ingots, billets and continuous casting billets are commonly used as raw materials, and die casting billets are also used.
  

Material selection should pay attention to:

(1) Production and quality should be considered.

Choose appropriate billet size, reduce rolling passes as much as possible to increase production, while ensuring compression ratio.

(2) Considering the economic benefits and production possibilities, all consumption should be reduced.

Raw material preparation is mainly to check and clean up various surface defects (scarring, cracking, slag inclusion, folding, etc.) If not cleaned before rolling, rolling will continue to expand and cause more defects.

Cleaning methods:

Flame Cleaning: As for carbon steel, low alloy steel, metal consumption is large

Wind shovel cleaning: suitable for carbon steel, alloy steel, high carbon steel (alloy steel has poor thermal conductivity, easy to crack by direct flame cleaning, must be preheated)

Grinding Wheel Cleaning (Planing): Suitable for alloy steel, peeling, the high metal consumption

How to Install Cardan Shaft?


1, When installing the cardan shaft, should check the product type on the specification model, and clear the flanges of cardan shaft .

2, For the cardan shaft with length compensation, should check the two ends of the forkhead phase, not at the same time, should be corrected by changing the position of the spline teeth.

3, When install, must not hammer the joint bearing.

4. Flange connecting bolts can only be worn from the flange end of the joint, the NUT is screwed by the flange side of the cardan shaft, and if the space of the joint is restricted, the double head bolts can be selected (except for special requirements).

5, Flange connection should use 10.9 class high-strength bolts and 10 high strength nut, twist the nut before the thread part of the bolt and daub a little grease.

6, Bolts, nuts need to have reliable measures to prevent loose.

7, When install should pay more attention to prevent the internal spline slips off.

8, In the possible cause of the operation of the cardan shaft caused by the damage of the site to add a universal shaft protective cover.
